The Absurdity Of Conspiracy
"Conspiracy is a play so strange and absurd that audience members can be heard gasping in disbelief, but still leave the theatre bearing grins from ear to ear...Law’s script works best with many characters on stage, each interacting with high energy and commotion. He employs a Tarantino technique of long dialogue-driven scenes, continuously raising the stakes and piling on the tension, ultimately culminating in relief: ten seconds of rewarding bloody action... this journey into absurdity is thrilling the whole way through."
CONSPIRACY! Bends Time and Space
"Writing with sharp and entertaining wit, Law weaves fact and fiction together...Playful and inventive, CONSPIRACY!’s actors never held back for a moment...Katherine Turnbull made the audience laugh until they cried...Wellman and Petrachuk were a brilliant pair of leads. Whether they were running from the crown, dragging a corpse across the stage, or arguing over an ex-husband, the two never left the audience bored...this play likely kept audiences intrigued long after the final bow."
Conspiracy! is About More than Just Theories
"The play seems to come to a poignant resolution about the power of creating a false historical narrative. It then completely eschews any sense of resolution, settling on a defiantly anachronistic ending that is as terrifying as it is hilarious...The acting is top-to-bottom fantastic...In an inspired casting choice, almost all actors play double roles which invites a number of fun parallels that can be drawn, and contributes to the play’s general atmosphere of paranoia."
Of Conspiracy!
"Chocolate Moose Theatre Company is premiering their new comedy, written and co-directed by Law at the Mainline Theatre from Jan. 21 to 24.
The play takes us back to the time of the mysterious events of Marlowe’s death in 1593. According to the conspiracy, Shakespeare and Marlowe could have been the same person.
While it deals with mysterious and sometimes sombre ideas, the overall approach to the story is mainly one of satire and skepticism."
Mrs. Pirandello and Mr. Marlowe
"It’s worth the effort to catch the latest Chocolate Moose Theatre Company production in a short run at the Mainline Theatre, Conspiracy! a moft dramatickale lamentable comeddie of the death? of Chriftopher Marlowe.
Marlowe of course, was the talented contemporary of Willy Shakespeare, rumoured to be a spy as well as the author of seven classic plays, who died in a tavern brawl at only 29. This keystone kops version introduces some possible assassins and promises hilarity and corpses."
Theatrical Highlights Pair Up for 2016
"Time to break out the Elizabethan collars for two small-scale productions this month...Chocolate Moose takes a farcical look at the mysterious death of 16th-century playwright and possible spy Christopher Marlowe in Conspiracy!, playing over at MainLine (Jan. 21 to 24)."
Review: An Iliad
"Montrealers should be grateful to Chocolate Moose Theatre Company’s Martin Law for bringing this unique gem to the Mainline Theatre, albeit for an all too short run of only 5 performances...Mr. Law is on a bit of a roll recently, culminating as King Charles in Compleat Female Stage Beauty."
Gazette Theatre review: week of November 9-15
"...at one point, Law, in a heroic feat of recall, rattles off the names of every significant conflict from the dawn of history to present-day Syria...His commanding one-man performance brings the epic clash between Greeks and Trojans, and particularly Achilles and Hector, to vivid life."
QDF: Behind the Curtain - Martin Law & Isaac Robinson (An Iliad)
"QDF: How do you feel that you will be 100 minutes on stage alone?
Martin: Vulnerable, in a good way...you are confronting everything you want to do on stage alone and you have no one else to lift you up, but then on the other hand, you can make it your best work with no distractions."
An Iliad: The Greatest War Story Ever Retold
Montreal Rampage interviewed us before "An Iliad"!
"He’s seen what true death and horror can look like and doesn’t want to be part of it anymore. But, it’s his job to tell the story any time he gets called to do it. He’s struck between having to do it and never wanting to do it again.”
Fringe Reviews Round Five (Felix)
"This is a fun story that very much takes you out of this world. Peggy Sue, the confused landlady, most certainly stole my heart in the way she evades questions and wanders around with a teapot, to not go into too many details. I never knew a show could make me think “wha-aaht!?” in such a good way before seeing ‘Felix’."
Portrait & Headshot of a Moose
The talented Montreal-based photographer Alex Tran did an awesome feature of his photography of our last three shows!
"...a short pep talk, some breathing exercises, a bit of line reciting, and then, my favourite, yelling the words sphincter and hippopotamus at the top of their lungs. That’s the secret behind a great performance, folks."

The Anger in Ernest and Ernestine: Mad Fun
"Law and the team do a fantastic job with this play. Though one could focus on the deeper meaning of relationships, gender-differences, or anger, Law is wise to focus on the comedy and characters. In doing so, scene after scene remains strong and the laughs never stop. "
"There are so many great moments in this play, it’s hard to focus on a favorite."
